Columbia Addiction Services and Psychotherapy Interventions Research (CASPIR)
CASPIR is a research and care facility affiliated with Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York Presbyterian Hospital and New York State Psychiatric Institute. Our offices are conveniently located in midtown Manhattan near Columbus Circle with easy access to several subway and bus lines. CASPIR was founded by and is currently under the direction of Dr. Jon Morgenstern, Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Addiction Treatment and Behavioral Intervention Research at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Other researchers from New York University and Columbia University also run studies out of this facility.
CASPIR is dedicated to the exploration of internal aspects of and external aspects surrounding individuals engaging in treatment for alcohol and substance use disorder that contribute to their resolution. We are developing new and, at times revolutionary, treatments and we are committed to identifying specifically how new and existing treatments work. Our research expands current knowledge about abstinence based and moderation based (also known as harm reduction) interventions.
CASPIR staff is comprised of individuals from multiple disciplines and varied training backgrounds, providing a complete, interdisciplinary approach to studying substance use and health behaviors.
This website offers researchers, clinicians, and potential research participants the ability to learn more about our ongoing studies.
